  • Jalandhar July 8 ----- Two more hockey players from Punjab have been added to the Indian hockey team participating in the Olympic Games. Giving this information, Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli and General Secretary Olympian Pargat Singh said that according to the changed rules of hockey by the International Hockey Federation and the Indian Olympic Association, the Indian hockey team in the Olympic Games is now not having 16 members There will be 18 members. During the Olympic Games, a list of 16 out of 18 players will be assigned before each match. Among the two players included in Indian hockey, Varun Kumar (defender) from village Mithapur Jalandhar and Simranjit Singh (midfielder) belong to district Gurdaspur. He further told that the 19-member hockey team is going to participate in the Olympic Games, the 19th player belonging to Punjab, Krishan Bahadur Pathak (goalkeeper), who was kept stand-by. The new rule has been set to replace the goalkeeper if the team's main goalkeeper is injured. It is clear that the 19-member team includes 11 hockey Punjab players which is a new history. 11 players from Punjab have never been included in the Indian hockey teams declared during the Olympic Games in history.
