  • Jalandhar, January 21, 2021 New Astroturf Hockey Ground will be laid near Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park, Jalandhar under Smart City project The announcement of new Astroturf Hockey field created a wave of joy among all Hockey players and Hockey Lovers. This has been decided after the meeting of Smart City Committee with MLA Jalandhar North Bawa Henry, Karnesh Kumar Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, Mayor Jagdish Raja and other sports experts. A detailed meeting was held to develop the entire Burlton Park in a Sports hub under smart city project Hockey Punjab’s President Nitin Kohli, General Secretary Olympian Pargat Singh Padma Shree (MLA Jalandhar Cantt), Olympian Surjit Singh Sodhi, Oly. Harpreet Singh Mandar (SP), Oly. Col Balbir Singh, Olympian Tajinder Singh, Olympian Sanjeev Kumar, International Hockey players Lakhwinder Singh Khaira, Amrik Singh Powar and Surinder Singh Bhapa said in joint statement that with this new Astroturf, Jalandhar will be able to host International Level Hockey Tournaments. They added that with the introduction of this new field, the emerging hockey players would get better results. Under the Smart City Project, the sports hub will features Astroturf Hockey Ground, Cricket Stadium, Football Field, Skating Track, weight lifting centre, Judo, boxing, Lawn Tennis, Basketball Court, Table Tennis hall along with Cycle and Jogging track.
